Position Summary

We're seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Design Engineer with a strong knowledge in metalware Design and Engineering of climbing or outdoor related products. As a vital member of our design team, you will collaborate closely with our R&D team and Director of Product to shape the future of innovative products.

You would be responsible for all the engineering aspects of a category of product, from the definition of the requirements of a new constructive platform, to its deployment in multiple products and all the way to the management of the full life cycle of the products by providing technical support to the manufacturing team.

We are seeking a candidate who is both creatively and technically minded, who has a critical and analytic eye on product and enjoys problem solving. This position claims for a high level of knowledge and proficiency with CAD and simulation tools, a strong knowledge in material science and industrial processes including Hot forging, Stamping and hydroforming and a good understanding of the use of climbing and mountaineering equipment.

Job responsibilities

  • You would be the project owner for the Concept and Design phases of the projects
  • Be the technical representative for some of our categories of products
  • Generate concepts through brainstorming and other creative processes
  • Work in close collaboration with the Industrial designer to create functional appealing  products
  • Responsible for the definition of the functional and performance requirements of the products
  • Find technical solution to meet design or performance requirements
  • Validate product requirements using numerical simulation, benchmarking, prototyping and lab testing
  • Select materials and design for the manufacturing process
  • Make testable prototype using 3D printing and rapid prototyping technologies
  • Perform the dimensioning and tolerancing of component and product assembly
  • Create the full product technical documentation and manufacturing specifications
  • Work in close collaboration with Product Developer and factories to industrialize the products
  • Generate, in cooperation with a Quality Assurance Engineer, a complete test plan to validate products
  • Ensure that products are meeting the PPE regulation requirements and collaborate with Quality and Test Engineering teams in the certification process of the products
  • Perform dimensional and functional controls of samples and pilot runs
  • Responsible for the qualification of components and products
  • Travel domestically and internationally to conduct research, work with vendors, attend tradeshows and other job-related functions

 

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other closely related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in product engineering ideally in climbing or outdoor consumer products
  • Strong knowledge of metalware component design and development
  • Long time experience with 3D modeling tools, including SolidWorks and Alias and ability to create models with complicated surfacing.
  • Knowledge in material science and product testing
  • Proficient at creating technical drawings including GD&T
  • Process oriented and minded
  • Familiarity with mountaineering and climbing safety equipment and its use
  • Familiar with basic inspection tools
  • Good ability to summarize and transmit information
  • Ability to manage various topics in parallel
  • Solid English and French required
